#ThrowbackThursday from Valentine. Featured this #ThrowbackThursday from Valentine.

Featured this week is a postcard. The front has Valentine, Neb. The back has a 1908 postmark. Photo made by S.D. Butcher & Son, Kearney, Neb.

Fun facts: Clearly visible in this picture is the original wood water tower that was constructed near Virginia (now 3rd ST) & Main in 1889. This photo gives a great view of early Valentine looking south from the area of where City Hall and the Valentine Public Library are currently located. The water tower collapsed in September of 1910. Also clearly visible is a wooden structure with stars on it. This is possibly the Star Livery which operated on lots 16 & 17 on the east of Main Street in the 300 block starting in 1898.

This information for this post was compiled from the books: “A Sandhill Century Book 1: The Land” available for checkout from the library.

We hope you are enjoying these historic photos and fun facts. Please watch each week as we share more #throwbackthursday posts.
