This organization shall be called: “The Valentine Public Library Board.” The Board exists by virtue of the provisions of Section 51-201 et seq. of the Revised Statutes of the State of Nebraska and of Chapter 2 of the City Code of Valentine, Nebraska. The Board shall exercise the powers and authority and assume the responsibilities delegated to it under said Statutes and Code.
Members of the Board
The Board shall be composed of five (5) members. Four members of the Board shall reside within the Valentine City limits. The remaining Board member shall reside outside the city limits of Valentine but within the limits of Cherry County. Members are to be appointed for individual terms of four (4) years by the Council of the City of Valentine, pursuant to law. The member from the County is to be appointed by the Cherry County Commissioners. For full details: see the Library Board By-laws available in the Library Director’s office upon request.
Board Statement
All library policies were prepared by the Valentine Public Library Board to serve as a directive of the Board as to the operational policies of the library. The Board unanimously adopts the policy statement of the American Library Association, the Library Bill of Rights and the Freedom to Read Statement on book selection and controversial materials. Copies of these statements are located within the “collections development policy” portion of the policy handbook. All library policies may be revised to meet the changing needs of the library and to provide the best possible service to all who use the library. The Board of Trustees welcome everyone to the library and hope the time spent in the library is enjoyable.

- Regular meetings are held on the fourth Friday of each month at 4:30pm unless otherwise posted, in compliance with the Nebraska Open Meetings Act.
