How Do I Get a Library Card?

At Valentine Public Library, we believe in making the joy of reading accessible to everyone! Here’s your guide on how to obtain your library card:
For Cherry County Residents:
- Reside in Cherry County? Lucky you! There’s no charge for a Library Card.
- Proof of Residency: To qualify, provide proof of residency with one of the following documents, all containing your name and local address:
- Photo ID (Driverโs License, Tribal Card, State ID, Military ID)
- Cherry County property tax statement or receipt
- City of Valentine utility bill
- Lease agreement
- Closing statement from house or property purchase
- Vehicle registration
- Probationary Period: All new cards will be on a Probationary Status for the first 6 months.
For Young Readers:
Children in Kindergarten or older: Library cards are issued, or they can complete the 1000B4K Reading Challenge to get their own card before kindergarten.
For Out-of-County Residents:
- Outside Cherry County? No worries! Library cards are available for a yearly fee of $30. Bring a photo ID to get started.
- Probationary Period: All new cards will be on a Probationary Status for the first 6 months.
For Seasonal Workers and Summer Visitors:
- Seasonal worker or here for the summer? We’ve got you covered!
- Temporary Library Card: Purchase a 3-month card for $10.
- Photo ID: Presentation required for all temporary cards.
