Free Census Records
Census records are a valuable resource for genealogy, local history research, and learning more about past generations. U.S. census records are available for 1790–1950, and include information such as names, ages, family relationships, occupations, and places of residence.
We recommend using FamilySearch for most users. It’s free (with a free account), easy to navigate, and has powerful search tools that make exploring census records simple—even for beginners. For those who want direct access to government sources or more detailed historical context, you can also use the National Archives to view digitized census images and learn about each census year.
Both resources are free and provide an excellent way to explore family and community history from anywhere.
