#ThrowbackThursday from Valentine.Featured this week is class photo from Valentine Public School 4th grade class with teacher, Miss Tische. The back has a list of names which is also included in this post.Fun facts: Many of the students listed on the back of this photo were students of the graduating class from 1963 which had 83 graduates. This class will celebrate their 60th Class Reunion this year. This year’s Valentine High School Alumni Banquet will be held on June 24, 2023. Tickets can be purchased in Valentine at Union Bank, Tradewinds Motel or online at www.vhs2023.com. #whatusedtobetherewednesday from Valentine.Featured this week is four postcard fronts showing Valentine’s Main Street over various years. From its start as a small frontier railroad town that began with horses, teams and wagons on the prairie, transitioning to dirt streets and evolving to motorized vehicles with high tech GPS and computers in their dashes parked along paved US Highways that cross the entire country.Fun facts: Valentine’s Main Street was originally paved as part of the National Emergency Relief Administration. Curbs and gutters were finished in 1932. Pavement was laid 30 feet wide from Nebraska 20 north to First Street, 63 feet wide for three blocks and 30 feet wide for the next block past the courthouse. It was opened to the public in July 1934. By all accounts, this was the pavement that was in place in 2022 as construction began on the IN VALENTINE Project. Welcome to late spring 2023 where traffic is flowing again, trees & vegetation have been planted, new stop lights, benches, and sculptures with Sculpture Walk Across Nebraska are in place. Please join the Valentine Chamber of Commerce as the community celebrates the completed Main Street project. Stroll downtown on June 9th for a ribbon cutting at 6:30 p.m. in front of Valentine's City Hall. Main Street will be closed from Third to Fourth Streets for the event. There will be burgers on the grill from Hoebe's Smoke n’ Meets.
